Esho Funi

Esho Funi

By Brian Wilkes

A crucial doctrine in Buddhist thought as well as Feng Shui and other cultural arts. The “e” of esho stands for eho or the environment, which means the place where I find myself. The “Sho” of esho stands for shoho, independent life entity or self. Funi is short for a longer phrase that translates as “two but not two.” Therefore, self and environment may appear to be two, but they are actually so profoundly interconnected that there can be no actual separation. Each contains the other; each pervades the other. The “external” environment mirrors what is going on in our “internal” lives. One takeaway is that we can “save the planet” if we start by re-organizing out thought and emotions. When you see this artwork displayed in your workspace, it serves as a gentle reminder to seek order in chaos.
